Checa opens up Miller with quickest FP1 time
Carlos Checa notched up the quickest time in the first free practice session at Miller this morning. The Althea Racing Ducati man once again proved to be a master of the high-altitude Utah circuit with a lap time of 1 minute 48.914 seconds, a time that came about despite the fact that he was twice sidelined with technical problems during the one-hour session. Behind Checa can be found the two Aprilias of Leon Camier and Max Biaggi, one-tenth adrift of his team-mate.
Jakub Smrz (Effenbert-Liberty Racing Ducati) moved up the timesheets towards the end of the session to grab the fourth slot, overhauling Michel Fabrizio (Suzuki Alstare). Jonathan Rea (Castrol Honda) was sixth, while Marco Melandri (Yamaha World Superbike Team) was in tenth.
